Jaro - Cherubim

I'm almost a week late but cut me some slack, I've been busy okaaay! Anyway. Cherubim is a new mixtape from my man Jaro. Jaro is currently based out of Van City but we met as kids in Bermuda. I think we might have even had child-hood beef :). Jaro also spent some time in Halifax as member of the group, The Chronicles. My dude has now matured into a great artist that has been one of the few that I've seen to make hip hop that maintains a strong Bermudian identity without sounding "American". I think that the project is dope and feels authentic, beyond just a dude spitting slick bars. According to him, Cherubim is only a short preview of what's to come so we'll definitely be checkin for his next project. Here are some of my favs from the tape.

Eternia - Get Caught Up

Eternia is one of the dopest MC's reppin Canada. She also reps female MC's to the fullest while spiting harder than most dudes. Her style is "Boom Bap/Golden Age Rap" at its best. Get Caught Up is collection of notable gems she's released over the course of her impressively long career. In her words, "These are not "pop" songs. These are note video singles. These are not Top 10 hits. This is the heart and soul of why I do what I do when I do it. This is a personal offering to those that this mix was made for." One song I particularly connected with is, "Balance" where she uses relationships as a metaphor for  not wanting to chose between the two countries she loves. Look out for her album with producer, Moss later this year.

On a side note. E. Can  you bless me with one of those "My Favorite Rapper Wears a Skirt" t-shirts?

Chip Tha Ripper - The Cleveland Show

The first time I heard Chip Tha Ripper was in Kid Cudi's song T.G.I.F., one of the many dope tracks from the A Kid Named Cudi mixtape. But other than his appearance on Cudi's album I hadn't heard much from him. Checking out The Cleveland Show was a great introduction to his sound. I've practically had this thing on repeat for the past week. Chip's delivery is smoother than warm butter on toast and the production on the tape really compliments his flow well.

Prof ac - Tha Thinline Mixtape

This is a bit late in coming but worth a listen. Lyrically tight with solid production throughout. Never one to shy away from baring his emotions on a song, Prof airs it all out on this dope effort. Hopefully I'll have time to post an interview with him very soon. Also. Be on the look out for his new mixtape Tha Throwback.
